We cannot do much about avoiding the complex effects of climate change, partly because there are far too many narratives about it, and seemingly no solution at all, or definitely not a single one only. There is a confusing manipulative debate about what exactly the cause of catastrophe is, and foremost about whether it is indeed of anthropogenic origins. This worsens the situation.
Given the nature of information in a post-truth media environment we are surrounded by an extensive net of narratives, which due to its complexity brings us all into a state of deep uncertainty and helplessness. In spite of the fact that there is a scientific consensus of human impact, climate change denial still persists, manifesting itself in an explicit or implicit manner. The former denies the facts, the latter accepts the arguments of scientific consensus, but fails to translate them into action.
Therefore beyond the question of how to adapt ourselves to the approaching catastrophe, the only thing we can do is to understand the nature of these narratives, and to eventually choose one, and act on it, preferably in a collective manner.
